Wait For It
July 1, 2024The most important thing in life is your eternal salvation. Nothing else matters more than this.
There are different kinds of people in this world, and different kinds of classes of society where people fit in. Some people live in penthouse apartments, some people live in 10-bedroom houses. Most live in humble settings, while others, unfortunately, live on the street. Some drive Lamborghinis, Mercedes, Bentleys, while most drive modest cars. Many can only travel by public transit. The problem with this division in life is that the wealthy or well-off think they’ve got it made. Having much wealth can create in some, attitudes of greatness and importance: we’re better than ‘those other people’. However, there is one thing many don’t give any thought to and it’s this: while we are all different and live at different levels of life’s pleasures, one thing makes us all equal, and it’s the grave. One day, we will all end up 6 feet under. I may get buried in a pine box, while you get buried in a gold-cast sarcophagus made of African Blackwood. Maybe 10 people show up at my funeral, many none, while thousands attend yours. The sad truth at this point, however, is that we are equal: we’re both dead and forgotten. I left nothing behind, and your massive fortune is left in the hands of another to spend. This is vanity and grasping at the wind.
While many can enjoy the benefits this life supplies them, so that they live the most extravagant life possible, Bible says life is but a vapor. Even if you live to be a 100-years old, in light of eternity, it’s a drop in the midst of the ocean. 100 years cannot compare to eternity. Which brings us to what really counts in life: the most important thing in life that matters is your eternal salvation.
There is an after-life; it doesn’t all end at the grave. Eternity is not much different than real estate. What is the golden rule? Location. Location. Location. When God created Adam and Eve, He placed them on a period of probation in the Garden of Eden, the earthly paradise. They were placed under the one commandment of God and this was a test of their free will, as to whether they would obey God or not (Gen 2:17; 3:1-6). They failed in this probationary period. God extended grace to them and gave them space to repent and be restored to His fellowship by the atoning sacrifice. God pronounced the death penalty on man’s sin of disobedience. However, there was a period of probation given to Adam as well as the entire human race. As far as man is concerned, this period of probation is called time.
Time is the resource we all share equally and should be used to get right with God. Heaven is real and hell is real. The unfortunate fact is that we are all headed for hell, whether we believe it or choose not to. In this life, we settle our eternal address. Let’s get right with God and settle things once for all. It doesn’t matter what you have in this life if you miss out on heaven in the next life. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? (Mark 8:36).
